Pens:

One of my daily pleasures is to immerse myself in nature. An array of parks and trails are nearby to explore. Mostly, I find myself in the quietude of the White Clay Creek, which can be traversed from many vantage points throughout my city.

The image in the Lens section is a fairly new trail that lines the outskirts of “my” city. Over six months ago a new section was added to the original trail, and it moves with grace through the center of town. It’s nearly noticeable, and that’s a strength. It’s marked, but easily crosses Main Street to lead to the woods.

Many other cities are using “retired” railroad tracks to make biking, hiking and walking trails, and that’s the impetus behind this one. But it extends ours for miles, and solitude is still  possible, even in its popularity.

Note: As always I welcome any comment about this post or any part of my blog.

    Love the photo.
The first YouTube video I ever made was a bout a walk through a park that had an old railway line running through it. One of our favourite walks is to and from the next town. We can walk along the highway or we can follow the railway line, and except for the occasional train you would not know you were in a city.

Talk about deja vu…this image reminds me of infrared photography! It’s not quite that because your tonal range is much less abrupt than an IR photo. Very cool.

  11. I love the re-use of old train tracks in this way and I love getting out and walking. I’ve been allowing myself to be much to busy indoors and this is a good reminder to get outdoors!

As a lover of nature, this is a great shot. I’m all for new trails that help us escape the city for a wee bit.
