WordPress’ Weekly Photo Challenge: Movement

Track Meet, April 2012; © Sally W. Donatello and Lens and Pens by Sally, 2012

WordPress’ Weekly Photo Challenge: Movement had me sifting through my photographs. I selected this one from a high school track meet. The runners are just beginning, and one of the referees just holstered his starting pistol.

Locals schools are competing for Field and Track, and numerous schools are present. The crowd is watching with significant intention.

Each runner is steadily building his or her strategy, and the movement dictates the next step–faster, slower, hold back, inch forward. It requires a real mind and body duet that must work in synergy.

Every choice builds movement and placement in the pack. And minute-by-minute the formation shifts as a runner moves into the position that can make the difference in the team’s outcome.

Note: I welcome comments about this post or any part of my blog.

  1. An exciting movement. The thrill of the race. The adrenaline all pumping as each one hopes to be the winner! Great post!

Looks as though he’s about to start shooting at the heels of the stragglers 😉

    • Could be–it’s wonderful how a story can be excavated from an image that is a twist on reality. That’s part of the beauty of the mind’s eye and the brain’s lens. Or is it the other way? Thanks, Sally

    Nice shot!
