WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is an apt choice for seasonal change that includes autumn. This time of year is the initial phase of what will be another reawakening witnessed in springtime. Renewal begins with the demise of plant life and its return to the earth–a return that enriches and gives new energy to what will emerge in a few months.

I have posted two interpretations of the theme. In the Lens section the milkweed seed pod represents life formed and sustained by summer months of growth. As autumn settles into its role, nature insures the species’ survival with its sights on renewal. This monumental charge manifests itself with the spreading of its essence, the seed. Milkweed is a critical part of the chain of the monarch butterfly, and its continuance is made possible by the burst of the seeds sailing across the landscape. They come to rest and make a home for themselves beneath the surface, eventually becoming part of spring’s renewal process.

Photograph two represents another kind of renewal. The sky was slate gray for most of that bitter cold day last weekend. Suddenly an oval of blue pushed through the clouds, and gave light to a fall day. The sky’s azure character filled the afternoon with a new sense of promise. The temps grew warmer and the somber note of the morning disappeared.

Renewal can have multi-pronged definitions. But its character is paramount to Mother Nature’s charm and power. Every season has its tint of renewal, and we find spirit and soul in that aspect of our existence.

Note: As always I welcome comments about this post or any part of this blog.

  1. Two elongated things: a dark blue “mouth” in darkened clouds, a milkweed pod. Who’d have expected to find them juxtaposed?

The first photo looks vaguely familiar to me, as a woman…

Two beautiful images, but my favourite is the first one. It has such a beautiful flow of energy through the whole frame. I like the movements and the blurriness, and I like the limited colour palette. Nicely captured.

  7. A really nice post. That iPhone does a good job. I would never have thought the camera in that phone could perform so well. Great pcitures of the seed pod and of the sky.
