Pens:

In the Lens section is my entry for this week’s Wordless Wednesday. Even in this wordless challenge, I am compelled to celebrate with images and words. My Ode to Narcissus is my 200th post. It’s a milestone and so I say: happy blogging to me.

To honor this occasion I selected four photographs of the dreamy narcissus. For me it rises high above the daffodil, and stays there to lift my spirit. In Greek myth Narcissus was entranced with his own reflection, and upon his death was turned into a narcissus.

For me this multi-colored spring child mirrors all that the season will become:  reawakening and renewal and transformation. Those perky flowers bring retrieval of color to spark our visual landscape.

The Back Story: When I discovered Wordless Wednesday, the notion that my blog, which focuses on lens and pens, would occasionally go wordless was not necessarily a conflict. For me, photography has always been about its visual language. So here I am with my ninth submission (first was on 19 February 2013), and (yes), still creating words.

Note: As always I welcome comments about this post or any part of my blog.

#2. There’s a yin-yang quality about the white and the warm colors dominating the center of the frame. It’s as if the “heart” of the flower was rejuvenated where it was once entirely white. Nicely done on all images, by the way…

    GREAT SHOTS!!! THANK YOU!

  6. The views from the back are more mysterious than those from the front because the viewer doesn’t have an explanation for the red at the center of the flower.

  7. Like angel’s wings comforting our hearts with their light, beautiful petals. So beautiful and want to turn my words into a song.

  8. Congratulations on the 200th post! I love # 3!

Every now and then I see a photo at the beginning of a post that makes me gasp at its beauty. Your first photo made me ‘gasp’ today.

I think I like #3, the double with the faces down. It just seems balanced to me.

  11. Cynthia says:

They are all lovely. Especially like #3.

  12. Lovely! I like the first and third best – everyone takes pictures of the fronts of flowers, but who thinks to photograph them from the back? Stunning!

  13. Pearl says:

Congrats on reaching 200. (Numbers mean nothing and yet they do at the same time. I just got to 200 followers on twitters. I’m less on control of that since its the behavior of others. )

Like your second photo’s glow. The third shows the structure of plant and light in an interesting way too.

    • Pearl, thank you. You’re absolutely correct. It’s all in our heads. The real joy is connecting with the community. Social media is a bizarre and wondrous entity. It certainly pushes a small place where competition reigns.
