Let me know which you prefer and why.

Pens:

Autumn has such varied visual treats, which still the heart and enliven the soul. Sunsets are on the top of my list: the way the sun alters its colorations and size with bursting brilliance. Often this happens so quickly that I hardly appreciate its radiance before it’s settled into the horizon.

In mid-October I walked to the top of the hill where my city’s reservoir proudly sits. It’s a gorgeous spot for recreation and vigilance: experiencing the elements from dawn to dusk. It is always flowing with action: bicyclists, runners, walkers, and those in deep conversation.

In the Lens section are two examples of the sun ending its day’s wondrous presence. To be sure autumn provides those glorious hues that steal our attention, and let us ponder la soleil as it touches the horizon.

I really like the first shot, for me it’s not the typical image or post processing you would see of a sunset. All the best Mark

  2. I love the mysterious green colours in the first photo – well captured! Malc

  3. EricaK says:

I love the golden glow captured in the first.

  4. dsaquarelles says:

Both are marvellous. Difficult to choose. The second is warm and radiant, but I prefer the first one. I feel it mysterious and entrancing. And I find that the contrast in values is large : from white to very dark, so the white and yellow are very luminous. Very well done.

  5. Tina Schell says:

Lovely Sally! I’m a fan of the green hues but am curious – looks like the same shot with different post-processing, no? Just curious.

  6. Gallivanta says:

How lucky you are to have that expanse of the reservoir and its surroundings to enjoy. I think I prefer the second photo. It gives me the peaceful feeling I associate with horizons.

  7. FireBonnet says:

I am incredibly drawn to and into the first one. For me the composition, colors, line/shape and vignette come together in a magical way. Super take on the theme!

  8. Both are lovely but I think I prefer the first. Seems mysterious and perfect for this time of year! 🙂

  9. Think I prefer the first one. Seems more ‘moody’.

  10. I prefer the second – the clarity, the longer distance and the warm colours.
    I guess I just like “predictable” 🙂

  11. ~meredith says:

The second picture relaxes my eyes. The colors are soothing. The first one is very stimulating.

  12. Jeff Sinon says:

Definitely the second one, it looks much more natural. The first has a “blotchiness” to it, as well as a greenish color cast that makes it much less appealing to me.

  13. marialla says:

    AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. A visual magic that takes us back to a lot of warm and happy memories. Have a great weekend.

  15. Two beautiful photos Sally. I like them both but am really caught by the glow of the sun in the first photo.

  16. thirdeyemom says:

Beautiful. I love the fallish colors of the first shot the best. Wonderful.

  17. I prefer the first shot for the unusual colors and the grainy quality, which lend an air of mystery to the image. I like the second photo too, but I think it is more predictable.

  18. Valentina says:

I like the first photo, it looks like a burst of colors.

  19. Oh I have to go with the first shot! The greens with the golds this time of year..magical!

  20. Lignum Draco says:

I prefer the second because that’s how I would have processed it. 🙂

  21. I’m going with the second one. Although, both are great shots!

  22. Madhu says:

One more vote for the first shot 🙂

  23. kfar2013 says:

First one – more mystery to me.

  24. I prefer the first, though I like them both–I think because it’s a more unusual color scheme for fall shots (which seem to gravitate more towards the orange and red families), and because of my own idiosyncratic tendency to see hearts where they don’t actually exist. In the top shot I see a heart shape with the sun enclosed.

  25. I like the first one because of the unusual colors.
